FROM THE "FOOTYSTATS DIARY" — LAST TIME:
HAWTHORN v PORT ADELAIDE
l Port retained its string of good performances in Launceston – the Power have won in five of their six matches at York Park – three against St Kilda, twice versus Hawthorn ...
l Port have won eight times of the past nine games against the Hawks ...
l no new match records were noted ...
l 50 – LUKE HODGE (Hawthorn) since 2005-R15 ... KANE CORNES played his 100th consecutive game for Port Adelaide, since 2003-R17 ...

THE MATCH:
Port Adelaide claimed second place on the ladder with an amazing come from behind streak in just 49 seconds to beat Hawthorn in sunny and clear conditions on Sunday afternoon at York Park.

In a match worthy of a final, Port down seven points goaled twice in the last minute first through Daniel Motlop from 20m out dead in front, then Brett Ebert outmarked Campbell Brown and Joel Smith outside the goalsquare who kicked truly from an angle with two seconds left – the ball was bounced in the middle when the siren ended the match.

Andrew Wu reported for Sportal: Ebert's goal not only secured victory for Port but also enabled it to steal second spot from the Hawks, who are now fourth after appearing home and hosed. The Hawks who led from the 20-minute mark of the second term until the last kick of the game, will be ruing two undisciplined acts in the opening minutes of the last quarter which enabled the Power to goal twice following 50m penalties against Shane Crawford and Robert Campbell.

Midfielder Kane Cornes was outstanding with three goals for the Power while keeping Hawks rival Sam Mitchell to a moderate game, while Chad Cornes and Danyle Pearce were good throughout.

Jarryd Roughead and Ben Dixon both booted three goals for Hawthorn, while half-back Chance Bateman was solid and Trent Croad kept Warren Tredrea quiet.

PORT ADELAIDE 12.15-87 (K.Cornes 3, Motlop 3) best, K.Cornes, P.Burgoyne, Pearce, HAWTHORN 12.10-82 (Dixon 3, Roughead 3, Franklin 2) best, Young, Bateman, Croad.
Sunday at York Park: 15,264.
