THE MATCH:
The Western Bulldogs in their fourth premiership outing to the Top End posted a vital 26-point win over a tiring Fremantle in hot and humid Darwin conditions at Marrara Oval on Saturday night.

Brad Johnson was a match winner up forward for the Dogs with five goals, 10 marks and 23 disposals, while Luke Darcy showed signs his top form isn't far away with a two-goal, 17 possession night. Aided and abetted by Adam Cooney, Scott West and Matthew Boyd, Johnson marshalled the forward line brilliantly against the valiant stopping efforts of Scott Thornton.

Justin Chadwick observed for Sportal that Peter Bell was sensational for the Dockers with 34 touches in the middle and Matthew Pavlich kicked three goals in attack, but the Dogs' relentless running proved too hard to match over four quarters.

Tim Clark in his summary for AFL Online: In incendiary conditions, with temperatures still at 27 degrees despite the evening start, both teams put on a first quarter of hot goalkicking, a dozen majors spread throughout 11 players. Only Chris Tarrant could find the sticks more than once (for Freo), thanks to a hanger over Brian Harris.

Emma Quayle for The Age noted: The end result – 38 goals from 23 players – fell a little short of the 25-goalkicker record set by the Bulldogs and Geelong eight years ago, but said plenty about a match that was quick, open, even and slightly insane, unsure how it would turn out until the last 10 minutes.

WEST.B'DOGS 22.9-141 (Johnson 5.1, Hahn 3) best, Johnson, West, Darcy,  FREMANTLE 16.19-115 (Pavlich 3, Tarrant 2) best, Bell, Pavlich, Sandilands.
Saturday night at Marrara Oval: 11,449.
Report:
Nathan Eagleton
(WB) was cited for striking Chris Tarrant (Fre) during Q3. Eagleton was offered a two-game suspension with an early plea – not reducible due to carry-over points on record. The club sought adjudication from the Tribunal. On June 26th the jury confirmed the suspension of two matches.
