played in Brisbane. A similar feat, this time rolling through for a goal, was attributed
to famous West Torrens player Nip Geddes in the early 1900s for a SA State
side in a match against Broken Hill.
l During the Geelong v Melbourne VFL match at Kardinia Park on
May 15 1965, both full backs, Paul Vinar (Geelong) and Tassie
Johnson (Melbourne) consistently drop kicked out to the centre circle, a distance
of something close to 83 metres.
l John Pitura (South Melbourne) v Geelong in
the VFL match at Kardinia Park on April 28 1973, hit the goalpost halfway up with
successive shots, both torpedo punts, from well inside the centre square, a minimum of 80
metres.

between 63 and 74 metres (70-80 yards).
l A punt kick by John McCarthy (North
Melbourne VFL) v West Coast in 1988 was estimated at 85 metres, some 92 yards.
l Horsham (Victoria) forward John Sambo Seater
kicked a 115 metres (some 125.76m) v Warracknabeal in the early 1960s, the ball being
swept along by a gale and bouncing twice before going through the sticks. |
